Liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat from various areas of the body, commonly the belly, thighs, flanks, upper arms, buttocks or jawline. It is not a weight-loss surgery, but is intended to treat areas of stubborn fat that remain despite workout and exercise regimens. Options for Flank Liposuction

Liposuction is a suction technique that removes fat from specific areas of the body. The procedure may be used to reduce fat in one area of the body, or may be used in several areas at once. There are various procedures, and Dr. Okada will choose the one that best fits your treatment goals, your medical history and your body. These might include tumescent liposuction or suction-assisted liposuction.

 

 Preparing for Treatment

LIPOSUCTION CONCERNS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Initial Assessment

    Dr. Okada will meet with you to discuss your concerns and desires pertaining to your liposuction. She’ll review your medical history, answer your questions and set expectations for moving forward. She may take medical photos during this initial consultation.

  • During Treatment

    Depending on the extent of your liposuction treatment, general or local anesthesia will be used. Most liposuction is done as an outpatient procedure. Depending on the number of areas to be treated, your liposuction may take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.

  • Recovery Timeline

    Pain, swelling, and bruising are typical after the procedure, and you will be given pain medication and antibiotics. You will likely need to wait and heal for a few days before returning to work, and several weeks before returning to exercise and other activities. Liposuction requires that a compression garment be worn up to four weeks post surgery.

Does a liposuction procedure hurt? 

There is some discomfort associated with this surgery. Dr. Okada will help you manage any pain you feel post-surgery. 

What are the possible side effects or risks of a liposuction?

Any surgery carries some risks. Dr. Okada will review these with you ahead of the procedure, and gain your consent on several forms. Possible risks might include:

  • Infection 

  • Contour irregularities

  • Fluid accumulation

  • Numbness

  • Internal puncture

  • Fat embolism

  • Kidney or heart problems

  • Lidocaine toxicity

What is the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck? 

Liposuction removes fat from beneath the skin, while a tummy tuck addresses excess skin as well. There are some cases where a patient may seek both, and Dr. Okada can help you understand the best options for you.
